Friday, February 2, 2024 – Orlando Pirates supporters are in for the shock of their lives after Ronwen Williams decided to share ‘his truth’ on why he chose Sundowns.
Williams
was one of the best goalkeepers in the league at SuperSport United and without
surprise, Pirates showed interest to sign the Gqeberha-born keeper, but so did
Sundowns.
According to Williams, Sundowns’ players in the Bafana
Bafana camp did enough to lure him to Chloorkop.
“Everytime I played against Sundowns, it was so difficult.
Training with their players in the national team, you could see the level was
much higher,” Williams said
“The talks they had as well, they didn’t talk about winning
the league but they talked about winning the Champions League and it was crazy
to see where their mental space was.
“They were looking to break barriers and I wanted to be
there and I wanted to be a part of it. Just the way they do things is a crazy
level. To see them year after year challenge to win the Champions League is
tough.
“We have a technical team that believes that we can achieve
things and win the Champions League and play at the Club World Cup and break
records,” Williams added.
Staying with Pirates and Sundowns, a former Buccaneer has
suggested who should fill Lorch’s shoes after his departure to Chloorkop.
Reacting to Lorch’s departure, former Pirates star Benedict
Vilakazi has suggested Lesedi Kapinga. According to “Tso,” the Musina-born
Kapinga has similar attacking abilities.
“It’s a big loss for Pirates losing a key player like Lorch.
Supporters and a lot of people are looking at the club to have quality players
to challenge Sundowns for the league title,” Vilakazi said
“To lose a player like that to Sundowns is a blow in terms
of how you can challenge them for the league. I mean he was a key player. But
it didn’t come as a surprise. I played the game for a long time.” He added
“I can see when a player wants to go. I’ve seen them while I
was still playing when they want to go, how they behave, what they do and all
of that. They end up leaving the team.
