KERI RUSSELL has no interest in getting married to MATTHEW RHYS

Sunday, October 11, 2026 -Hollywood actress Keri Russell has revealed why she has no plans to marry longtime partner Matthew Rhys, making it clear that their relationship does not need a wedding to prove its strength. During an October 8 appearance on Chelsea Handler’s Dear Chelsea podcast, the 50-year-old star said she was comfortable with their decision to remain unmarried.

Russell, known for her role in The Diplomat, explained that she has already experienced marriage and sees no reason to repeat the process simply to meet societal expectations. Her candid comments have sparked fresh interest in the couple’s unconventional approach to long-term commitment.

Russell and Rhys, 51, have been together since 2013 after developing a romance while starring as a married couple in the acclaimed television drama The Americans. The pair share a son, Sam, while Russell also has two children from her previous marriage to Shane Deary.

Explaining her perspective, Russell said modern couples no longer need marriage to establish financial independence or personal identity. She also dismissed the idea that a formal wedding is necessary to demonstrate loyalty, emphasising that a lasting relationship depends on both partners continuing to choose one another.

The actress’s remarks have reignited conversations about changing attitudes towards marriage, particularly among couples who have built families without legalising their relationships through a wedding. Russell made it clear that having children together represents a permanent bond for her and Rhys, describing marriage as outdated in their circumstances.

Rather than focusing on a wedding date, the couple appear content to maintain their relationship on their own terms. Their decision offers a different perspective on commitment, challenging the assumption that every successful long-term relationship must end at the altar.
