Wednesday, October 14, 2026 - Former Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher will avoid bankruptcy proceedings after resolving an outstanding tax debt owed to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
During a hearing at the Insolvency and Companies Court on
Tuesday, Insolvency Judge Nicholas Briggs officially dismissed the bankruptcy
petition filed against the former player. The dismissal followed confirmation
from HMRC legal representative Kevin Hassan that the outstanding balance had
been settled in full.
The tax authority originally issued the petition in August.
While formal figures were not disclosed during the court session, previous
assessments estimated the liability between £700,000 and £800,000.
Carragher spent his entire senior playing career at
Liverpool, accumulating 737 appearances prior to his retirement in 2013. He was
a key member of the side that captured the UEFA Champions League title in 2005.
Since ending his playing career, he has worked as a prominent sports analyst
for television networks including Sky Sports and CBS Sports
