Friday, September 24, 2026 - A total of 781 migrants arrived in the UK after crossing the English Channel in small boats on Wednesday, making it the highest single-day figure recorded in 2026.
The Home Office said the arrivals came aboard 10 boats, surpassing the previous 2026 daily high of 752 people recorded on July 29.
The latest surge brings the provisional number of small-boat arrivals this year to 18,565. Despite Wednesday’s sharp increase, the overall figure remains 42% lower than at the same point in 2025, when 32,188 arrivals had been recorded.
The government has said it wants further action to reduce crossings and disrupt the operations of people-smuggling networks.
The new record comes as authorities face renewed scrutiny over Channel security after two boats reached the British coast without being intercepted earlier this week.
The Home Office has ordered a review of the incidents, while officials continue working with French authorities to prevent dangerous crossings and tackle the networks facilitating them.
