Saturday, August 15, 2026 -At least seven Kurdish people have reportedly been detained in Bukan and Miandoab as Iranian authorities intensify arrests in western Iran.
Human rights group Hengaw reported on August 15 that the detainees were taken by Iranian intelligence and security forces, with several transferred to undisclosed locations. The latest arrests have heightened concern over the growing pressure on Kurdish communities.
The developments come as further arrests were reported in Bukan and Miandoab in recent days. On August 13 and 14, security forces reportedly detained Kurdish men including Mohammad Hajizadeh, Omid Chawbaz and Sediq Karimi, with their whereabouts subsequently unknown.
Reports also say some raids were carried out at family homes without warrants, increasing concerns over due process and access to legal representation.
The expanding arrests are putting renewed attention on the treatment of Kurdish citizens in Iran and the lack of information available to families after detentions.
With more people reportedly being taken into custody, rights groups are calling for transparency over the detainees' locations, legal status and treatment.
The situation remains fluid, and further arrests could deepen concerns about an escalating crackdown in the region.
