Eight bomb-laden drones intercepted over Erbil

Friday, July 17, 2026- Eight drones carrying explosives were intercepted over Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan’s capital, in a major security operation aimed at preventing potential attacks.

Authorities said the drones were detected and neutralized before reaching their intended targets, avoiding possible damage and casualties in the area.

Security officials are investigating the origin of the drones and the group responsible for deploying them.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over the use of unmanned aerial systems in regional conflicts, as armed groups increasingly rely on drones to target military and strategic locations.

The interception highlights the growing security challenges facing Erbil and the wider Middle East, where drone attacks have become a major threat. Authorities are strengthening surveillance and defense measures while urging the public to remain alert as investigations continue.
