Thursday, March 20, 2025 - A photo of former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu in prison uniform has set social media abuzz.
Waititu was sentenced to 12 years in prison or a Ksh 52.5 million fine on Thursday, February 13th, after being found guilty of illegally
awarding a Ksh 588 million tender during his tenure as Kiambu
Governor.
His wife, Susan Wangare, was also
convicted and sentenced to one year in prison or a Ksh 500,000 fine.
Both have been barred from holding public office for ten
years.
Since his conviction, Waititu has remained behind bars after
the High
Court denied his bail request pending an appeal.
On Tuesday,
March 18th,
he filed a fresh application seeking to be released on bond.
The viral photo shows Waititu wearing the infamous black and white
striped prison uniform, sitting in a prison
library, looking crestfallen.
The image has fueled discussions online, with some sympathizing with him while others see it as justice served.
